Set of 4 Bentwood Dining Chairs No. 17 by 'Lange Jan' by Thonet
This characteristic set of four chairs was made by Thonet, most likely in the 70s. Model No. 17 is one of the famous bentwood chairs Thonet made, also known as the Lange Jan. With its relatively high back and the refined webbing in the seat and back, this chair has an elegant appearance. The circular bentwood shape in the top of the back makes a distinguished detail. Both the back and seat are made in natural wicker, which nicely contrasts to the dark stained beech wood of the frame.
Thonet is worldwide renowned for its well chosen proportions, great quality and comfort. The transparency of this chair gives it a pleasant lightness, combined with its friendly appearance these chairs are highly desirable.
Not often do we come across this model, let alone in a matching set in such a well preserved condition. The wood and wicker only shows minor signs of use, and a wonderful all over patina.
