An impressive art deco centre table in walnut veneer and marble. Europe, 1930s.
The large round top rests on a substantial pedestal, creating a monumental silhouette. The warm tones and beautiful grain of the walnut veneers are beautifully complemented by the richly veined red and white marble in the base. The pedestal conceals a practical cabinet, accessible through a curved, lockable door. This discreet integration of storage within the supporting structure is a particularly interesting feature, preserving the purity of the table's circular form while adding an unexpected functional element.
With its large dimensions, wonderful proportions and restrained architectural character, the table shows a monumental yet modest art deco design without much ornament. The combination of the warm figured wood, polished stone and the almost sculptural construction gives the piece a very strong presence.
Would be a great center table in a hallway, but could also function as a large side table / smaller scale dining table.
Comes in a very good and original condition with wear due to age and use - some marks and scratches - as can be seen on the photos.
Dimensions: W. 95 x D. 95 x H. 70 cm
