Bas van Pelt Lounge Chair in Solid Wood and Rope The Netherlands 1940s
Bas van Pelt Lounge Chair in Solid Wood and Rope The Netherlands, Early 1940s.
A beautiful and rare lounge chair by Bas van Pelt for 'My Home'. A great design in solid wood with a wonderful backrest in rope - a stunning combination with the dark green painted wood and the - original - black / dark brown leather cushion.
A subtle and simple design, but due to the use of color and interesting materials this chair becomes something rather special. Also, the patina it gained over time only adds to the charm - both the wood and leather show a wonderful and subtle patina.
Overall, this is a very handsome lounge chair with a very desirable color and material combination and patina.
About Bas van Pelt
Bas van Pelt, was one of the early champions of modern furniture design in the Netherlands, introducing progressive interior concepts through his company. When the war interrupted both life and legacy - Bas was tragically killed in 1945 - his daughter Janni and her husband Dick Brouwers chose not only to preserve his work, but to build apon it. After studying at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Janni and Dick took over the family business, later renaming it ‘Bas van Pelt Binnenhuisarchitectuur’ to honor her father's vision.
