Exceptional Pair of Brutalist Accent Chairs in Iron and Beech 1990s

This is a very special sculptural pair of brutalist accent or side chairs in iron and beech, bearing resemblance with the work of the renowned Swiss sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti.

Sculptures in their own right, these are more than just traditional furniture. Great as accent pieces in an elegant interior - together or separately. The horned crescents, totemic verticality, and irregular hand sculpted presence shows hints to tribal or archaic symbolism and folk or outsider metalwork traditions. Showing true handmade quality and a - most possibly cast - iron lava like surface of wonderful tactility.

They feature a deliberate rejection of industrial perfection and a tension between modern minimal space and ancient language, which is a dialogue commonly found in 1990s European and Japanese collectible design.

In the 1980s and 1990s, European avant-garde furniture design flourished, marked by bold experimentation and a fusion of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. Notable designers are Garouste & Bonetti, Philippe Starck, Martin Szekely, Jaime Tresserra, Eduardo Chillada and Oscar Tusquets.

These chairs come in a good vintage condition with some signs of age and use on the wood.

Dimensions:

Left W. 42 x D. 43 x H. 158 cm SH. 45 cm
Right W. 46 x D. 43 x H. 127 cm SH. 45 cm
