Georges Charles van Rijk Pair of Swivel Lounge Chairs for Beaufort Belgium 1960s
A rare pair of 1960s lounge chairs by designer, artist and photographer Georges van Rijk (1933-2015) for Beaufort, Belgium.
Quintessentially mid century, the striking design of these swiveling lounge chairs is simple yet very refined. The straight and angular shapes are strong and timeless.
The original upholstery combines wonderfully with the shape of the chairs itself and comes in a good condition. Please note the interior foam has hardened a bit, which could be considered normal after 60 years. Of course these chairs can be reupholstered if required, please ask us about the possibilities.
About Georges van Rijk
Georges Charles van Rijk - often spelled van Rijck - was born in Brussels in 1933 and emerged as a quiet but distinctive force in mid-century Belgian design. Trained as an industrial and interior designer. Van Rijk’s furniture designs are marked by clarity, restraint, and a deep attentiveness to form.
In the 1970s, van Rijk moved gradually away from furniture, turning toward photography and, later, image-based painting. He remained creatively active until his death in 2015, often mentoring younger designers and collaborating on multidisciplinary projects.
Dimensions: W. 71 x D. 81 x H. 78 cm (Seat height 42 cm)
