Gertrud and Otto Natzler Rare Studio Pottery Vase 1960s

€4,200.00

Very rare and collectible, this vase by the world famous studio pottery duo Gertrud (1908-1971) and Otto (1908-2007) Natzler is a true masterpiece.

This rare vase features a very elegant and refined design with a rounded pear like shape. The bulbous body tapers slightly towards the top. The neck transitions into a wide, flared opening with a smooth outward-curving lip. Very good proportions.

This highly sought after piece of studio pottery was wheel thrown by Gertud and glazed by Otto - the glazing master who invented and experimented with thousands of different glazes. Please note the wonderful combination of the almost black high gloss and slightly iridescent glaze at the outside and the wonderful deep brown speckled glaze at the inside of the pronounced opening.

Widely recognized as one of the most influential studio pottery masters of all time, the work of Gertrud and Otto Natzler is rare and highly sought after.

Both born in Austria, the Jewish couple fled the Nazi regime in 1938 and built their home in Los Angeles, California - further establishing their success as world class studio pottery artists. Already pottery legends throughout their lifetimes, the work of Gertrud and Otto Natzler is widely recognized as very influential and avant garde - and can be found in numerous high end private collections and museums all around the world.

Comes in a very good condition with no faults. Signed ‘Natzler’ at the base.

Dimensions: W. 9  x D. 9 x H. 11 cm
