Lucien de Roeck Expo '58 Palette Side Table for Bois Manu Belgium 1958

€750.00

If there are any real Belgian mid century design classics, this adorable table has to be amongst them. Designed by graphic designer Lucien de Roeck (1915 - 2002) for the 1958 Brussels World Expo and made by Bois Manu, it was a souvenir which could be bought at the fair and came dismantled with its pencil feet clamped under the palette shaped top. It came in tree different colors - red, green and yellow - although there are also some special versions around with the World Expo map silk screened on the top.

Lucien de Roeck devoted his life to typography and graphic design - he is mostly known for his poster designs and graphic work. He designed the logo and other illustrations for the 1958 Brussels Expo - which was very - very - influential. In Belgium there really is a time before and a time after Expo ‘58 - both in art and design as in Belgian society in general.

This particular table has its original red painted top with a desirable patina which shows signs of age and use. The pencil feet are glued to the table.

Dimensions: W. 50 x D. 40 x H. 48 cm
