Stunning Mid Century Cabinet in Patinated Brass, Metal, Enamel and Gemstones Belgium 1960s
A breathtakingly beautiful decorative cabinet in metal, brass, enamel and gemstones. Belgium, mid 20th century.
A bespoke and unique piece - made for the Westmalle Abbey in Flanders, Belgium. Originally a tabernacle - an ornamental, locked cabinet or safe that houses the bread and wine of Communion - now it can be used as a stunning decorative (bar) cabinet.
Wonderfully executed in brass, hand hammered metals, inlaid enamel and gemstones. Features a sculptural and tactile facade - in ways reminiscent of works by American artist and furniture maker Paul Evans - full of stunning and interesting details. Please also note the heavy quality fish-shaped key.
A heavy duty piece with functional lock. The inside is cladded with gold painted metal.
It comes in a very original condition with some signs of wear and use - relatable to the age of the piece. Furthermore the materials have gained a wonderful patina over time - most notable the brass on the sides, top and in the facade.
