Wonderful Vase in Patinated and Perforated Brass 1920s

€1,250.00

A wonderful and highly unique vase in patinated brass. Europe, 1920s.

Made from a artillery shell casing from the first world war and created by a soldier or artist - in or just after the war.

The vase features a long and tapering silhouette, polished to a soft golden sheen. Near the rim, the metal has been carefully cut and scalloped, creating a crown or floral like edge. Below this a series of pierced geometric apertures, both circular and rectangular, introduce rhythm and lightness. In a strange way, it almost looks like Scandinavian modernism.

Shows a wonderful hand made quality. The cuts are slightly irregular, suggesting they were made with simple hand tools rather than factory machinery. A wonderful detail.

This vase combines the interesting history attached to these trench art pieces with great style and elegance. A true gem.

Dimensions: W. 9 x D. 9 x H. 29 cm
